Time

I've always thought a lot about time. Time is all we have. But, what is it? I see my clock ticking, I see the earth moving, people running around. But what is time? Time is what we use to describe movement: just like spatial coordinates are used to describe the position of an object, time is used to describe the change in the position of an object.

But why does it matter. It does because it is how I explain cause and effect. Brought down to the smallest chunk of time possible, every state in the universe is the result of the state a small piece of time before. The state of things an infinitesimal amount of time in the future will be a result of the state of things right now.

This shows me two things: first, that action is what matters. Me moving an object, walking, doing stuff, is the only thing that matters in time. My actions define me. Second, that everything is connected through a web of cause and effect--the past and the future are just imaginary states, we have only the present: what we do today will determine what we do tomorrow.
